UXWeek Day 2 Highlights
No guarantees that I’ll be blogging every day from the event this week, but I did want to mention a couple of very interesting sessions on the 2nd day. First up was Lisa Strausfeld, principal at Pentagram. Lisa and her team were on stage explaining some of the UX concepts behind the OLPC (One Laptop Per Child) program. The originality of the UI design (especially given the expected user base for the laptop) was excellent. The design takes a perspective of activities that the user can do locally, activities that the user can do within his/her group of friends, and activities that they can do within the neighborhood – all connected by a very pervasive mesh network.
My second shout out of the day has to go to Stephen Anderson, a principal user experience architect at Sabre. Stephen spoke about creating adaptive interfaces (literally speaking, these are interfaces that change based on historical data, external data, and what’s going on at that point in time). The numerous examples he demonstrated were very thought provoking, especially for anyone that has done any Web UI design – and he had pretty much everyone in the room writing everything down at a furious pace as he went through his ideas. Hopefully he’ll post the slides to his site…
